The 74th Gaseous Electronics Conference (GEC) will be held October 4 - 8, 2021 in Huntsville, Alabama with workshops/tutorials on Monday and the scientific program held Tuesday through Friday. The 2021 GEC will continue its tradition of offering a truly outstanding venue for presentation of leading research in low temperature plasma science and collision physics.
Gaseous Electronics Conference (GEC) focus is on the physics and chemistry of low-temperature plasmas and their interaction with surfaces via particle bombardment and radiation. A major emphasis of the conference includes the physics of ionized gases and their interaction with surfaces; the physics of atomic and molecular collision processes that underlie these phenomena.
The GEC audience is made up of world elite experts in low-temperature plasma science, unique connections between fundamental science and applications of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early career researchers, senior scientists from academia, university faculty members, national labs, and industry scientists in the field of plasma science, plasma applications and atomic processes.
The percentage of participants are broken up into the following categories:
- 35% Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers,
- 35% university faculty members
- 15%industrial researchers
- 15% national laboratory researchers
Attendees of GEC seek to learn in their field of research, present their research results to the community, network, and learn from each other. This event opens avenues of collaboration within academic groups, establishes connections with industrial partners, develops relationships for career options, recruit authors and interns, as well as demonstrates products, services, and tools.
The papers presented at the conference range from basic physics to direct applications in plasma-aided manufacturing, bio- and nanotechnologies, electric propulsion, and a wide range of related topics. Many members of the community actively collaborate with industrial partners, because most GEC topics are directly relevant to commercial applications of plasmas.
The format and setting of the conference provide for a free and vigorous exchange of ideas among the participants. The conference will host oral and poster sessions as well as several social events, including a conference reception and banquet to foster networking and technical discussion. Exhibiting vendors and conference sponsors are encouraged to participate in these social events. GEC also provides an excellent opportunity for recruiting top talent in low-temperature plasma physics.
